5 ways to ‘fake’ your renovation

Replace old door and cupboard handles

Door, cupboard and drawer handles can contribute to making your house feel dated and unkept. Changing these will have a big impact on the overall look of your home, especially in the kitchen and the bathroom. You can replace all of the old, outdated handles in your kitchen for less than $100 if you’re frugal about it. To change the handles yourself, all you need are a tape measure, screwdriver and some time.

Replace tapware

On the same note as replacing handles to spruce up a kitchen or bathroom- replace your tapware. For a fraction of the price of a full room renovation, you can subtly update the look of a whole room by replacing dated taps with more modern options. Modern trends include contemporary matte black or brushed brass styles.

Paint the walls, ceilings and skirting boards

Painting is often considered the easiest way to return on investment when it comes to improving the look of your home. And don’t just stop at painting the walls! Consider the cupboards, doors and the ceiling to complete the fresh look. Always speak to a professional before you pick up the paintbrush as you may require different treatments or finishes.

Check your storage solutions

If your laundry is cluttered or you can’t trust that when you open the pantry door, nothing’s going to fall out of it, it might be time to come up with a storage solution. Built in storage solutions come in many modern and affordable styles that you can easily DIY. With decent storage space, rooms can feel more organised and pleasant to be in.

Make your house bright with lights

Does the lighting in your home need some attention? If you’re currently living with flickering ceiling lights, dark workbenches or depressing fluorescent tubes, then it’s time for an update. Built-in lighting should always be installed by a professional, but that doesn’t mean you can’t install your own battery-operated lighting. For an immediate impact, consider a hanging feature light above the dining table or modern LED strip lights under the bathroom vanity. A little extra lighting can go a long way.

Don’t spend thousands on a renovation when you can spruce up your home with a few small changes. It’s time to ‘fake’ your renovation and improve the look of your home.
